Collateral Damage: Listen
Many United States veterans who served during the first Gulf War are sick. The mysterious illness or cluster of symptoms known as Gulf War Syndrome, that plague many former members of the armed services is frequently disclaimed by Pentagon brass. However, in Iraqi towns and cities that border the 1991 battle zones, cancer rates have jumped nearly 100% and there is little doubt about the cause. The main ingredient in American bombs today is depleted uranium, which becomes billions of breathable, radioactive particles after initial impact. Despite evidence to the contrary, the Pentagon claims that D.U. is essentially harmless. We speak with internationally respected pediatrician and nuclear researcher, Dr. Helen Caldicott.

Missile Envy: Listen
North Korea, Pakistan, now Iran...where will the Nuclear threat come from next? Nuclear weapons have become global capital. In today's climate, use the phrase 9/11 on Capitol Hill and you can get just about any expenditure approved. The arms race is back and our fears make for powerful motivation. We talk with the president of the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research, Arjun Makhijani.

This Week's Questions:
